In the world of biofuels, ethanol is considered to be the king. However, scientists have been researching this area and came to a conclusion that butanol could actually offer more.
Butanol contains more energy than ethanol. Butanol doesn’t need to be transported by trucks. That could be of a huge importance as the world’s fuel consumation rises.
“The infrastructure we have now just won’t be able to make it.” says Andy Aden, an engineer at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory.
There are some companies that already started on building plants that will produce biobutanol. They are making it from food feedstock, but plan to switch to non-food feedstock in the future.
