China has established itself as a super-power country in wind power production, with superior technology, and it’s ready to rank in the 3rd position after United States and Germany, which are the world’s biggest wind power producers. The country has vigorous plans to expand its energy power supply to contribute towards its economic growth.
Shi Lishan, the vice director of the National Energy Administration’s New Energy Department was quoted saying that the installed wind capacity of the country would extend to 20 gigawatts this year, which means the infrastructure gets bigger than Spain to reach at this level.
Here are the statistics of these countries as per the Global Wind Energy Council:
- In 2008, the United States acquired 25.2 gigawatts of installed capacity of wind power which makes it a whopping 20.8 percent of the world’s total while Spain had 16.8 gig watts of installed wind power in the year end. During this time, China’s capacity was just round about 12.2 gigawatts.
- China is known for the worlds largest emission of greenhouse gases which has contributed in a bigger way towards global warming. It is also dependant upon coal, one of the major non-renewable fuel sources.
- By 2020, China sure has laid down an objective of generating at least 15% of its energy from wind and water — an environmental friendly renewable source which would contribute greatly towards a green environment.
Earlier this month it was noted that China was pointed out on many of its decisions during the international summit in Copenhagen for the adoption of a formal agreement on climate change.
Last week, the nation planned to adopt a law which would support renewable energy sources. This was an initiative which manifested a commitment to curb harmful emissions, which would make it necessary for the electric grid firms to only buy power from sources which were renewable.
