Climate Change

Climate Change

Environmental experts now believe the climate change issue will be more discussed and debated even though there are many political agendas regarding this global issue. Debates over drilling in Alaska and the Kyoto Protocol are major tweaks that are suppressing the actual movement which is needed to stop climate change.

Climate Change

There have always been a lot of national debates over whether the carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases are increasing in the atmosphere are due to human made problems or they are just a natural phenomenon.

The documentary and a book called “An Inconvenient Truth” which was released back in 2005 by Al Gore signifies the environmental alarm and explains how ice caps are melting at alarming rate, and to support this fact, some scientists say within the next decade, the ice will disappear in the summer months.

Natural disasters

We have been noticing a lot of extreme weather conditions, and in some cases this is very unlikely. In 2005, Hurricane Katrina created a devastation taking many human lives and damaging many infrastructures. Water spurred into the levees system in New Orleans and the 80 percent of the city was underwater within few moments. Many people lost their lives and many were missing. They were trapped and isolated without any immediate help and medical attention. People slowly moved on with their lives but could never forget the catastrophic event. As soon as they were rebuilding their homes and moving along with their lives, another Hurricane, Hurricane Rita arrives to furtger damage.

Not to forget nine months earlier, the whole world was stunned by the biggest natural disaster that mankind have ever seen, a Tsunami in the Indian Ocean killed more than 300,000 people when the waves swept many cities and villages forever.

Great Lakes

A legal agreement, which was designed to save fresh drinkable water by stopping large scale diversion from the lakes, was signed by the governors of from different states like Minnesota, Illinois, Wisconsin, Ohio, Michigan, Pennsylvania and New York in 2008.

Scientists have said that water is not fresh anymore in most parts of the planet because it has now been contaminated with plastics and other toxin materials including pharmaceuticals wastes.

Going Green

As people are now becoming more aware of their environment, they know that they can stop the rapid climate change by going green. Schools and many private organizations are building such green technology programs to educate younger generations and help them understand how we can save our planet.

I don’t think anyone can deny the climate changes. The question is how serious is this and what is the cause. Anthropogenic Global Warming has turned into a faith or religion and as with all religions, any evidence that this faith is unfounded is met with extreme resistance. Mankind has devestated this planet and there seems to be a lot of chaos. It’s crowded – in a very short period of time (140 years) we have gone from 1 billion people to almost 7 billion people. I believe the emphasis on AGW is a knee-jerk reaction to these facts. Exactly what are we to do when the planet cools a little again as it did during the Little Ice Age a short while ago – release massive amounts of greenhouse gasses to counter the cooling? Isn’t it enough that 17,000 children die of hunger everyday or that 1 billion people don’t have ready access to clean water? I mean are there not enough very real and indisputable problems we must address ahead of the speculative problem of AGW. Living things have always had to adapt to a changing climate. Let us adapt, be sensible about energy consumption (that means Al Gore not using up as much energy as a couple dozen average american families) and let us come together to deal with the very real and ongoing problems and suffering that exist all around us right now.
I would suggest that a doubling of our population by the end of this century will be a far greater threat to our environment and society than any warming or cooling.
