There is a new program which offers homeowners with rebates for installing heating appliances that are energy efficient that is about to start in New Hampshire. $1.2 million has been take from stimulus funding to fund the program. The rebate complements many other state & federal programs which offer savings to homeowners for these projects. The thing is, that if you possess a house in New Hampshire, it is probably an old & fossil fuel based furnace, boiler or water heaters that are inefficient.
Come April and you will be given rebates by the government for replacing these dinosaurs with efficient models. The more efficient replacements you get, the more rebate you will get. For electric utilities & fossil fuel systems the rebate will vary between $100 and $1000 based on the system you choose and the energy efficiency it has.
For example, you will be given a thousand dollars if you replace oil boilers with something that is 90% efficient. If you replace it with one that is 85% efficient then you will onlu be getting half of this rebate.
More than 2,700 appliances are expected to be replaced and this will save a lot of energy, nearly 10 million BTU’s. These savings are a main reason why department has started to give a rebate on the heating systems instead of on appliances like refrigerators.
There is also an economic benefit. Home heating systems require service technicians who wouls instal these systems as you have economic incentives by putting these contractors to work.
Solar hot water heaters are listed for $750 rebates.
That doesn’t look like much thinking that these systems cost close to $7,500. But additional state and federal rebates can make these systems a lot more affordable.
Public Utilities Commission currently is developing a rebate on solar hot water heaters.
Since July last year, home owners have been allowed to take advantage of rebates up to $600 for installing the systems of renewable energy.
The demand has been a lot more than anticipated. They though that 75 to 100 systems may be sold in the first year whereas around 240 systems have already been sold and it’s only been 7 months.
Most of them are solar photovoltaic systems and 34 of them are small wind turbines.
The money for rebates ($4.5 million) came from the renewable energy fund of the state which gets it’s money from utilities of the state.
