Ethanol fuel

Ethanol fuel is actually ethanol, the regular alcohol that you can find in alcohol beverages. It can be used as fuel, as a replacement of gasoline. Ethanol production starts with photosyntesis, but in simple terms, it’s made out of sugarcane or corn. Because of large amounts of these plants, Brazil is the country where ethanol fuel usage is huge. They are one of the largest consumers of ethanol fuel.
Bioethanol is produced through several processes – fermentation, distillation, dehydration and denaturing.
Ethanol fuel is mainly used to power engines (cars, aircrafts).

The top ethanol producers in the world are Brazil, USA, China, India and France.

There are some controversies surrounding biofuels in general. Many reports are showing that biofuels „eat“ a lot of food. As a matter of fact, a report has shown that biofuels consumed around 80% of America’s corn harvest.
