Green Conference Sparks Ideas

Green Conference Sparks Ideas

Last week New York saw a gathering of like-minded “greed gadget” developers coming together for one purpose: to spark ideas and hopefully generate some real-world production of a variety of different products that could help lead to a greener, more eco-friendly tomorrow. Concept gadgets on display ranged anywhere from solar to kinetically driven devices as well as a whole gamut of area in between, though each may or may not actually see production at some later date.

One of more interesting products unveiled was actually a kinetically driven, energy producing rocking chair with built-in USB and standard outlet charging ports so that you could easily add power to your devices while enjoying a nice afternoon – or while rocking away as you play your favorite game. Such a simple yet effective device could easily turn any sitting time into a power-generation session while you do nothing but relax, helping you reduce your stress and your electricity bill at the same time. Best of all the chair comes in easy to ship and easy to assemble forms so users can quickly take it home, set it up and enjoy it wherever they want, something currently not seen possible for many other kinetically driven power generation devices.

Given the number of mobile devices utilizing USB ports for charging today this simple device could easily slide into your briefcase, backpack or other carrying case and go with you for portable power wherever you may need it, easily recharging your cell phone, ipod, digital camera or more simply by plugging it in and leaving it out in the sun for a while.

The conference, labeled “Greener Gadgets”, is a chance for designers worldwide to gather together and share their products and first kick-started in 2009. Having taken place on February 25 this year the conference hosted both freelance and professional product designers as well as a number of major speakers from green energy organizations to talk with both general attendees and guests alike. For those interested in attending the conference themselves keep an eye on the Greener Gadgets website for an up-to-date schedule of events as with any luck the conference shall continue in 2011 as well to help develop a growing appreciation and interest in “green” tech and what it can do to help change our world.
