Obama speaks on nukes and coal

While pitching his energy & climate agenda in front of the joint session of Congress in February, President Barack Obama warned people on the ill effects of climate change & asked the house as well as the senate to send a legislation to him which would put caps based on the market on carbon pollution & instigates the production of a lot more renewable forms of energy in America.

In his address on the State of the Union yesterday night, he pushed this same agenda on energy but ensured that he used a much more aisle crossing language this time.

He won a lot of applause for emphasizing his plans on building new nuclear plants and to develop the new clean coal technology & drill offshore for oil & gas. These are initiatives that have been favored by a lot of Republicans and there has been a clear attempt made for attracting GOP support for climate and energy bills by the Senate.

He did not mention a cap of carbon emission explicitly which is a very important feature in his effort for starting and leading a new global effort against climate change & which a lot of Republicans are against as they think that it would reduce the number of American jobs although he never did ask for comprehensive climate and energy legislations which means that Obama is continuing to push for the limits on green house gas emissions according to the language in Washington.

He even acknowledged all the people that disagreec with the large amount of scientific evidence that has been presented on climate change.

Obama told all of his skeptics, “Here is the point: Even if you are doubting the evidence that has been put in front of you, giving incentives for efficiency when it comes to energy use as well as using clean energy is the best way for you to move towards the future as a nation which leads the economy of clean energy will definitely be a nation which leads global economy.”

This speech won a lot of cheer from many Republicans, specially in the nuke and drillng sections.

Even the environmentalists liked the speech. The president of Natural Resources Defence Council, Frances Beinecke, even said that the speech was an unmistakable and clear call for action on the bill against climate change which has apparently gotten stuck in the legislative queue behind many others such as financial regulation, jobs and healthcare.
