Nuclear power is way too expensive, harmful to the planet and dangerous for America. The President should be funding real, clean sources of energy such as solar panels and windmills for various communities.
The President, on Friday, announced his plans for tripling federal loan guarantees in the case of construction of brand new nuclear energy plants within America to fifty four billion dollars. He also announced that he wished to form a kind of “blue ribbon” panel that was going to try and figure out what they could do with the large amount of radioactive waste that was going to be produced as a result of this expansion. There has been no announcement at all with regard to similar amouts of investment in the generation of electricity from various other renewable sources such as wind and solar as well as other, known clean energy sources. In defense of the, more than, 30 new nuclear power plants that have been planned to be constructed in the U.S., the President has spoken about muclear power, giving the feeling that it was a safe source of energy and was a clean one as well, during his state of the union speech on the 27th of January.
“If America were to transfer the tens of billions of dollars which the Congress uses in order to subsidize the prices of oil, coal & nuclear industries every year to creating national infrastructure that was capable of producing electricity with the help of solar and wind power, then American would be moving at a much faster pace towards the clean promise regarding the 21st century,” is what Midge Potts believes. She was the Progresive Green candidate in 2010 for the U.S. senate from Missouri. “Nuclear energy is, by far, the most expensive of the lot both in terms of production as well as in terms of the depletion of various fresh water resources not speaking about the extreme dangers that are involved with storing or transporting radioactive waster. Also, nuclear energy does have a very high carbon footprint because of the large amounts of extraction and processing that takes place of raw uranium.” she added. She also said, “Our tax dollars are going to be a lot better spent if used to install solar panels in every American home, and on the construction of low impact windmills for community’s which would enable people to produce energy for their neighbourhood themselves.”
