Why invest in biofuels

Recently the Biofuel industry has been surrounded with some level of doubt as to whether or not it really is as good for the environment and the world as it claims to be. Many people have thus begun to avoid investing in the Biofuels industry despite it being a viable and beneficial investment opportunity.

The controversy surrounding Biofuels is that it decreases food supplies by using up valuable farming land to produce it. The increase in food costs recently has been blamed on Biofuels as a result because it is produced from agricultural commodities. However, it has been declared that Biofuel should not have any affect on food supplies if given more investment. In fact, it has been stated that Biofuel has no affect on the food supply of either European or third world countries providing it has the investment it should do.

Biofuels have since been developed from the first generation Biofuels that have caused others to point the finger in the past. Biofuel used to be made of corn and other starchy food stuffs which have caused people to consider the impact Biofuels has on the farming industry. However, this blame has been grossly disproportionate as you need to consider other factors that play a more dominant role in food supply issues such as a higher meat/diary demand and weather conditions. It is therefore clear that given enough investment into second generation Biofuels the industry would stabilize in the long term whilst still being a more environmentally friendly fuel alternative.
The Biofuels industry is in fact taking large steps forward by researching the utilization of cellulose a product that is not used in the food industry therefore avoiding any impact on the agricultural farming industry. This method utilizes waste materials such as straw and therefore does not use up valuable food stuffs or affect the food market. Investing in the Biofuels industry is a long term investment that is expected to pay off around the year 2012 when commercial plants are expected to be in operation providing adequate Biofuel investment is made.

In fact, rather than being turned away from, the Biofuel industry is receiving finance from the US Department of Energy to complete the process and produce viable production plants. So it seems while others are turning away from Biofuel scared by the tall tales of problematic food supply interference, others are all set to reap the benefits that long term Biofuel investment will produce including large scale production, environmental solutions, fuel stability, economic stability and naturally commercial enterprise.

In short, don’t get frightened by first generation Biofuel shortcomings and the hype of Biofuel competition against food. This is simply no longer the case and Biofuel investors can expect to see massive changes in the Biofuel production that will benefit the environment, stabilize fuel production and not have any negative effects on the food industry. The Biofuel industry is working hard to produce alternative methods of obtaining glucose from non food stuffs specifically to avoid agricultural clashes.
